Family-oriented from the start
Hello, my name is David Diaz, founder of Homeva. I’m originally from Bogotá, Colombia, and I spent 5.5 years at Apple. I started as a specialist and later moved into corporate business development, working with leaders who helped shape Apple’s design and technology culture. My time there strengthened my passion for innovation, user experience, and clean design.
After Apple, I wanted to create something that made a bigger impact. My wife and I moved into a new home with our 6-month-old son, and I became focused on home security, comfort, and convenience. I wanted a home that was safer, smarter, and easier to manage.
That’s when the idea for Homeva began. I started testing all the latest smart home devices—lighting systems, motorized shades, automation hubs, and security products. Many products were unreliable, so I focused only on technology that was stable, easy to use, and worked well together.
This led me to create Homeva, a company dedicated to high-end smart home automation, lighting design, motorized shades, and whole-home integration for families in Austin, TX. My goal is simple: build homes that feel modern, intuitive, and effortless every day.
My first smart home project
The first smart home system I created was designed to make my son’s nighttime feedings easier. When he cried in the middle of the night, I simply opened my bedroom door. Immediately, a sensor turned on the hallway and kitchen lights at 20% brightness. This gave me just enough light to warm his bottle without waking my wife. Then, after I returned to bed, another sensor turned the lights off after five minutes.
From that experience, I realized how powerful smart home technology could be. It became clear that automated lighting and smart sensors could improve daily routines, increase comfort, and make a home feel safer. Ultimately, that moment changed everything. And just a few months later, Homeva was born.
